6.17.10 :: HTML 5 Ready Home Page

After completing the newest version of my motion graphics demo reel, I humbly decided to rebuild my home page using HTML 5 on the home and video page. The thinking behind this was to be able to view my reel on anything, from iPads to mobile phones. At first glance, the code seems simple enough and the compression of video was nothing new to me, however the fun was just beginning.

As any web designer knows, ever browser will read your site entirely different. Even worse, the same site on the same browser will look completely different on another computer. This issue seems magnified with the addition of HTML 5's video tag. After testing and retesting my site it looked beautiful on my Mac, iPhone, iPad, and PC. In Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer. I achieved this by having a fallback for older browsers utilizing my Vimeo page. It's still not perfect, and it's rare to have a site look perfect everywhere...especially with the amount of browsers out there now. With the help of this very helpful tutorial, 24-5.com is the first HTML 5 video-ready website I have up and running.
